Q: Our sewer line from the house to the street keeps backing up. We have had the line cleared a few times and a month or so will go by and it backs up again. What can we do about this?
A: The first recommendation is to perform a video inspection of your drain line. A camera is fed into the line and from a monitor you are able to see the inside of your pipes. A typical scenario is that the pipe has cracked or broken allowing roots to enter the line. The sewer machine will temporarily fix this problem but as you say, within a month or so the roots will have grown back causing drainage problems again. The solution would be to dig up the damaged section and replace it. The video inspection is also beneficial when repairing the damaged pipe as it leads the operator directly to the affected area eliminating a lot of costly guess work.
